Lieutenant Island
A secluded oasis in the middle of Cape Cod Bay
About the Island
Lieutenant Island is a special island in the middle of Cape Cod Bay off of Wellfleet, MA. Our home is a very short walk to several beaches that the island has to offer.
The island is home to roughly 100 properties and is accessible via a one lane road and small bridge that cross the marsh. Families seek out the island for its quiet beaches, beautiful walks, uniqueness, and sense of privacy. As soon as you cross the bridge, you feel yourself far from the cares and worries of the mainland. There are a few important things to know if you are staying here.

The road across the marsh to Lt Island gets washed out twice a day at high tide. Being on the island connects you to the rhythm of nature and helps you disconnect from the normal world. At hight tide, local kids jump off the bridge into the marsh and marsh inlets are filled with warm water for swimming and relaxing. It’s a part of the island local families love and enjoy.
Living with the tides, make sure you check the high tide each day using this website and if the allow for some time on either side of high tide if you are looking to cross the bridge by car.

There are two main beaches on the island. Nearest the cabin is Kayak beach. You can walk there in under five minutes. From here, our kayak is waiting on the beach for you to use, you can swim and enjoy the warm waters of the bay, or you can sit and take in the views.
The second beach is at the end of the road following Pond Ave to the end. It’s a twelve minute walk along the beautiful marsh where you can take in the small of and wide views of the bay. As the tide goes out of this beach it creates a natural lazy river. We love to take some floating noodles out and let the tides push us along.

Lt Island is famous for the bridge you cross to get here. At high tide island locals walk down to the bridge and jump off into the water below. It’s a great tradition to participate in. Just make sure high tide that day is around 10 feet or more.
The Cabin’s Location
Our cabin is tucked away in a private part of the pines on the island. When you sit on the deck it feels quiet and private, yet you are a short four minute walk away from Kayak beach and a 12 minute walk from Lt. Island beach. You can take long walks along the bay and the marsh or just take your time exploring all the island has to offer.
